In August 2010 a popular website devoted to a combination of design and hockey issued a challenge to create a brand for a fictional hockey team based out of Ohio. I decided to go the route of Pioneers, because Ohio has produced an unfair amount people who have gone on to be a part of aviation history firsts. As the primary logo, there is a portrait of Neil Armstrong, and the secondary logo is of the Wright brothers’ first airplane. The jersey design is meant to have a subtle arrow design, pointing up to the heavens, paying homage to the the journeys these men took. That arrow motif also found its way into the jersey numbering and sock design.
[…] Similar to a previous post, this is another hockey design concept challenge. This time, we were asked to create a branding identity for a fictional hockey team in Cincinnati. My design centered around the rich history of steam ships in the city. The primary logo shows off a landmark bridge, while the secondary is a steam whistle. I even went as far as to say that the goal horn would be a steam whistle. Also, the initials CS can be found in the steam cloud in the secondary logo. […]
